Interview one
Me: I'm here interviewing Andrew Cambridge about an award he won recently. What is this award Andrew?
Andy: It is called the IOG volunteer groundsman of the year award this is something that I didn't really know too much about I just got put into from a local sports field pitch advisor and the rest of it really was just me carrying on what I've been doing a guy had to come out and do a few inspections and things just progressed from there really.
Me: So this was for basically keeping the grounds nice and clean and safe and all that
Andy: Yeah basically we have a couple of football teams and a load of cricket teams thats senior things we also have cult sections I just all year round look after the local village rec really, try and keep it as good as I can for the teams and the village, done it for a long while had an interesting sport not just the grounds I used to manage the local football team and I'm now assistant manager for the football team, I've played cricket, captained the local cricket club. I have just done a lot with sports really but this award yeah it was a really big thing a big event I had to go to there was 700 people there I was with professional groundsmen which was quite eye opening as I am an amateur but I won my category award against a team of people from newcastle so happy days from me.
Me: This was volunteer work right?
Andy: Yeah it was all voluntary work this is nothing that I get paid for just take an interest in it and just carried on doing things that I like doing in my spare time
Me: So you mentioned your the manager of a football team
Andy: I have been I've run the village team for 15 years as a sole manager I'm now an assistant manager my brother joined this year and he's become manager and I help him out
Me: Which team is this?
Andy: Foxton football club
Me: Do you enjoy being the manager?
Andy: Yeah I loved it to be honest it was totally in family in my blood something that I always knew I was going to do and eventually I did it fell my way well accidentally to be honest the guy who ran it before me kinda got given the sack for one reason or another it was dropped on me a bit short notice I took it on and away I went
Me: Ok back to the groundskeeping have you ever just one day just not really wanted to do it but you still do it because of ... Like why do you do it basically?
Andy: I do it purely for well I don't know I enjoy doing it  and I like to give the village a good facility I've never really woke up in the morning and thought I can't be bothered I've always woke up and thought alright let's go that said I was even down there this morning for about three hours
Me: How long do you typically spend each day at the rec?
Andy: It can depend summer times I finish work at about 4 so I'm on the rec about half 4 I can be there until 7 or 8 a clock, winter times obviously light very very down so I might only be there an hour or an hour and a half after work maximum hour and a half be lucky if it's an hour really this winter's been quite a dark one as well so I haven't done as much this winter
Me: Do you use many tools or machinery to help with your work
Andy: Yeah I use multiple machines I have a little tractor which has a connection point at the back where I have lots of different attachments I have a brush, a drag matt, a little spiking machine and there's plenty of different operations
Me: Alright well Thank you for your time
Andy: No problem

Interview two
Me: I'm here interviewing Molly O'Reilly about her Thyroid so Molly
Molly: So I had a lump in my neck for quite a long time and the doctors decided to do some blood tests and they noticed in the blood tests that my thyroid gland was not behaving properly and caused me to be what they call overactive so my thyroid was creating to much thyroid hormone so they decided to give me tablets for a while to see if that would fix it and it didn't so then after 6 months or a year they decided to take the lump out so I was admitted to hospital and they took the left side of my thyroid gland out. After that they put me on some more medication so I had to have more blood tests and then approximately 6 months later I got a lump on the other side so they decided to take the other side out so then I went to hospital and had that removed
Me: So they took out both sides separately?
Molly: Yeah
Me: Do you remember when this was?
Molly: I think it was around 15 years ago if I had to guess
Me: Was it painful in any way
Molly: No because I was asleep but I remember when I woke up I had a big cut down my throat which wasn't very nice, I didn't dare move my head for ages and I ended up having a stiff neck for ages so then after all that I have to be on medication for life because you have to have the hormone that they've taken away so I have that in the day and since then I haven't really had any problems
Me: What's this hormone called?
Molly: There are a lot of hormones the thyroid creates T1,T2,T3,T4 so when you have your thyroid removed they have to replace T4 so they give you a thing called Levothyroxine and then your body is supposed to make from the T4 T3,T2, and T1 so it's quite a common thing
Me: How long were you in hospital for?
Molly: Not very long I think maybe 2 or 3 days because everything went well
Me: Your family came to see you right?
Molly: Yeah my family came to see me
Me: Why did you need it removed?
Molly: I don't think you have to have it removed but they prefer to cut it out to look after it artificially rather than letting your body do whatever it wants but it's quite a common thing and my mum also had it
Me: Ok it's good to know thank you for your time
Molly: Thank you
